On August 14, 2024, the "International Academic Seminar on Data Science and Generative AI" hosted by School of Economics and Management, Dalian University of Technology, concluded successfully. This seminar featured a special lecture and speech by David Simchi-Levi, member of the National Academy of Engineering, former Editor-in-Chief of the top management journals Management Science and Operations Research, and professor from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Professor Simchi-Levi presented fascinating lectures and courses on generative AI, statistical learning, and the revolutionary applications of data science in business decision-making. A total of 252 attendees, including faculty members, students from the School, and outstanding young scholars across China, participated in the event.
During the two-day seminar (August 13 to 14, 2024), Professor Simchi-Levi delved into the applications of data science and optimization theory in business decisions such as online pricing, as well as the utilization of generative AI technologies in supply chain management, particularly in demand forecasting. Additionally, he shared insights on how data science can reshape supply chain resilience management and his unique perspectives on its implementation in the automotive industry.
On the morning of August 14, 2024, the School organized a meeting between faculty members and Professor David Simchi-Levi. During this interactive session, Professor David shared his insights and extensive experience on how to closely integrate scientific research with industry practice and publish papers in high-quality journals, inspiring thought-provoking ideas and providing a fresh perspective for the participating faculty members.
This seminar provided faculty and students with the most recent advancements in data science and operations management, enhancing their understanding and proficiency in big data analysis and application, as well as in machine learning technologies. It stimulated academic interests among the participants and provided a solid foundation for SEM promoting academic innovation and international academic cooperation.
