From July 8th to 19th, 2024, School of Economics and Management at Dalian University of Technology hosted the first "International Workshop for Outstanding Young Scholars". The event attracted a total of 1,343 participants, comprising faculty, students from the School, and elite young scholars across China. Esteemed experts, scholars, and editors-in-chief of top academic journals from prestigious universities from home and abroad such as the National University of Singapore, the University of Texas at Dallas, and the University of Hong Kong, among others, were specially invited to participate. The workshop featured a series of activities, including research methodology courses led by senior experts and scholars, thought-provoking academic lectures, roundtable forums for intellectual exchange, and dynamic student conferences.
During the opening ceremony, Sun Yutao, the Secretary of the Party Committee of SEM, and Song Xiaobing, the Associate Dean, were present and delivered speeches. The ceremony was hosted by Assistant Dean Xu Zhaoguang. On behalf of the School, Sun Yutao extended a warm welcome to both experts and young scholars. He introduced the School's history and distinctive characteristics, thereby incentivizing the young scholars to delve deeper into the academic domain. He hoped that the participants would fully utilize the workshop to explore academic concerns, broaden their perspectives, and deepen friendship, thereby contributing to the advancement of economics and management disciplines. Song Xiaobing stressed the importance of taking advantage of the valuable opportunities provided by the workshop to develop research-oriented learning abilities and broaden horizons.
During the panel discussion, international experts and scholars engaged in face-to-face, in-depth discussions with faculty and students, jointly exploring cutting-edge knowledge and the latest research trends in economics and management. The lively atmosphere was fueled by the active inquiry of students and the enthusiastic responses of experts. This direct academic exchange not only provided a platform for faculty and students to showcase their academic insights, but also provided them with invaluable opportunities to dialogue with top international scholars.
During the student conferences, 10 students presented their research findings in two parallel sessions. Their presentations demonstrated not only strong academic foundations, but also innovative research perspectives. Experts provided comprehensive feedback on the students' papers, acknowledging their accomplishments and recommending avenues for further enhancement. Zhao Xin from the Department of Management Science and Engineering and He Xianan from the Department of Business Administration were honored for their outstanding research papers. The authors of these papers will be rewarded by the School.
Throughout the workshop, students interacted intimately with instructors, demonstrating their strong academic interest and curiosity. The workshop not only sparked academic enthusiasm among faculty and students, but also provided a fertile environment for their academic growth. Committed to cultivating high-caliber talents with an international perspective and innovative capabilities, School of Economics and Management organized the international workshop as part of its efforts to "bring in" high-quality international educational resources. This platform aims to broaden academic horizons, expand disciplinary knowledge, enhance academic capabilities, and facilitate academic growth for both faculty and students. The School will continue to promote high-quality international exchanges and cooperation, striving to become a world-class business school rooted in China.
