授课名师简介

David Simchi-Levi, Professor of Engineering Systems, MIT

David Simchi-Levi is a Professor of Engineering Systems at MIT and serves as the head of the MIT Data Science Lab. He is considered one of the premier thought leaders in supply chain management and business analytics. Professor Simchi-Levi is the former Editor-in-Chief of Management Science (2018-2023), Operations Research (2006-2012) and for Naval Research Logistics (2003-2005). In 2023, he was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He was awarded the prestigious 2020 INFORMS Impact Prize for playing a leading role in developing and disseminating a new highly impactful paradigm for the identification and mitigation of risks in global supply chains. Professor Simchi-Levi is an INFORMS Fellow and MSOM Distinguished Fellow and the recipient of the 2020 INFORMS Koopman Award given to an outstanding publication in military operations research; Ford Motor Company 2015 Engineering Excellence Award; 2014 INFORMS Daniel H. Wagner Prize for Excellence in Operations Research Practice; 2014 INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Practice Award; and 2009 INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Prize.

Course Theme: Generative AI for Business Decisions

Course Description:

This course explores the application of Generative AI in business decisions. Participants will delve into advanced concepts of AI, focusing on generative models such as Large Language Models, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Transformer-based architectures. Through a blend of theoretical discussions, case studies, and hands-on exercises, students will gain insights into how generative AI can revolutionize various aspects of business planning and management that includes revenue management, supply chain planning, demand planning, inventory management, procurement planning, portfolio management and asset management. Additionally, the course will examine ethical considerations, challenges, and best practices associated with the adoption of generative AI technologies in business environments.

Course Theme: Statistical Learning in Operations

Course Description:

The class will focus on applications of machine learning methods, combined with OR techniques, to study of a variety of operational problems, from supply chain, through revenue management all the way to healthcare management. The class will bring together two different disciplines, Operations Research and Computer Science to develop both theory and effective techniques for dealing with operational problems.

In this talk we show how data-driven research fosters the development of new engineering and scientific methods that explain, predict, and change behavior. We report on a few projects with online and brick-and-mortar retailers where we combine machine learning, optimization and econometrics techniques to improve business performance.
